The Federal Aviation Administration makes federal grants available to airports to maintain and improve airport facilities. The Yakima Air Terminal-McAllister Field has been notified that grant funds may be available to maintain and/or improve the airport upon submission of completed grant applications and satisfaction of certain conditions.
The Yakima Air Terminal-McAllister Field has recently completed an Airport Master Plan Update, which details a variety of Federal Aviation Administration required capital improvement projects, including designing and constructing a new Taxilane at the south end of the airport which will provide runway access and opportunities for future hangar development, safety areas grading, utility improvements and demolition/modification of 2-3 existing hangars.
The design grant application will request a total of approximately Two Hundred and Twenty Thousand dollars ($220,000) in grant funding from the Federal Aviation Administration, of which the Federal Aviation Administration will provide up to 90% of the funds needed for capital improvements and the airport will match the remaining 10% through its Passenger Facility Charge program for said project. Projects are funded by FAA grants which will not impact the city's general fund. |
