ITEM TITLE:Ordinance amending the franchise granted to Wholesail Networks, LLC (Wholesail) to construct, operate and maintain a telecommunications system.

SUMMARY EXPLANATION:

Through City of Yakima Ordinance No. 2015-045, as amended by City of Yakima Ordinance No. 2019-034, Wholesail Networks, LLC (Wholesail) has been granted a franchise to construct, operate, and maintain a telecommunications system within City of Yakima limits.  Ziply Fiber Pacific, LLC (Ziply) is an affiliate of Wholesail.

 

The City has been requested to amend the Wholesail franchise to include Ziply, which would allow residential telecommunications services to be provided in Yakima by Ziply.  A redline version of a proposed amended franchise is included in the Council's June 21st, 2022 regular meeting agenda packet.

 

City staff has completed due diligence in reviewing the request to amend the Wholesail franchise and is satisfied doing so is in the interest of the City.
