The City of Yakima is required to review and update its Shoreline Master Program (SMP) through a periodic process (RCW 90.58, WAC 173-26 and WAC 173-27). To assist in this update process, the city received a grant from the Department of Ecology and hired Shannon & Wilson Inc. as consultant.
The SMP update went through a public review process including Planning Commission study sessions, public open house, SEPA Environmental Review, Joint City/Department of Ecology public notice, and Planning Commission public hearing on May 26, 2021. All project documents were then forwarded to the Department of Ecology and their formal written statement of initial concurrence was issued on June 22, 2021.
