When the City of Yakima created the Transportation Benefit District (TBD) in 2017, some of the highest priorities were to replace broken sidewalks in certain downtown residential areas. While many blocks of sidewalk have been replaced in the specified areas, one of Council’s priorities, 4th Street from Walnut Street to Pacific Avenue, Project No. 2535, had not yet been addressed. As remaining TBD funds are in place to do so, this project will replace those sections of broken sidewalk on these seven (7) blocks.
Project plans and contract documents have been created for construction to:
- replace approximately 1,900 square yards of concrete sidewalk
- construct 50 ADA-compliant ramps
- replace 840 linear feet of curbing on S. 4th Street.
The City's Street Division will be removing the broken sidewalk and curbing and perform other related work in advance of new concrete sidewalks and ADA ramps installed by a contractor.
City staff used the state bidding process to advertise for bids. Bids were opened on October 13, 2020 with Mastercraft Concrete Finishing having submitted the lowest bid in the amount of $241,073.75.
Enclosed for City Council review is the contract with Mastercraft Concrete Finishing in an amount not to exceed $241,073.75. It is anticipated that this project will begin construction in November and be completed by the end of this year, weather permitting. |
