ITEM TITLE:Water Treatment Plant Receives Gold Certificate of Achievement for 10 years of Outstanding Performance producing drinking water
SUBMITTED BY:

Scott Schafer, Director of Public Works

David Brown, Assistant Director of Public Works, 509-575-6204

Jeff Bond, Water Treatment Plant Supervisor

SUMMARY EXPLANATION:

The Office of Drinking Water began the Treatment Optimization Program (TOP) in 2001 in an effort to recognize and improve performance at rapid rate filtration surface water treatment facilities like the one operated by the City of Yakima.  The objective of the voluntary program is to maximize public health protection provided by surface water filtration plants.  The City joined TOP in 2006.

This is the third award the Water Division has received.  The first was a Bronze Award in 2013, followed by the Silver Award in 2015. For the calendar years 2010-2019, the City of Yakima's Water Treatment Plant produced finished water turbidity of 0.10 NTU or less, at least 95 percent of the time; meeting TOP's turbidity goal and other stringent criteria related to public health protection and the accomplishment of obtaining the Gold Award.  Achieving consistently high drinking water quality like this is the mark of highly dedicated and skilled Water Treatment Plant operators.

Beginning in 2001, in an effort to keep our customers informed about Yakima water, we have provided the annual Water Quality Report in both English and Spanish.  This report is also a state mandate.  The 2019 report is included and can also be viewed at https://www.yakimawa.gov/services/water-irrigation/.
