The Office of Drinking Water began the Treatment Optimization Program (TOP) in 2001 in an effort to recognize and improve performance at rapid rate filtration surface water treatment facilities like the one operated by the City of Yakima. The objective of the voluntary program is to maximize public health protection provided by surface water filtration plants.
For the calendar years 2010-2019, the City of Yakima's Water Treatment Plant produced finished water turbidity of 0.10 NTU or less, at least 95 percent of the time, meeting TOP's turbidity goal and other stringent criteria related to public health protection. Achieving consistently high drinking water quality like this is the mark of highly dedicated and skilled Water Treatment Plant operators. |
