ITEM TITLE:Resolution authorizing an agreement with Yakima Valley Trolleys to use, operate, maintain, and promote the City’s historic electronic trolley system and museum

SUMMARY EXPLANATION:

The City of Yakima owns a 5 mile interurban electrical railway system and museum located at 306 West Pine Street.  Yakima Valley Trolleys, a non-profit Washington corporation, operates and maintains the electrical railway system and museum in accordance with the terms and conditions of an Operation License Agreement with the City of Yakima.  This organization has the expertise, experience, and sufficient personnel to operate and promote the electric railway system during the term of the agreement.

 

The Agreement continues the City’s relationship with Yakima Valley Trolleys, and provides for use of the system and museum for tourism and enjoyment by the public. Funding for the system is provided through the City Council’s budget process, and funds gained from ticket sales is placed in an operating budget for the system and museum.  This Agreement’s term is through December 31, 2024.
