YAKIMA, WASHINGTON AGENDA STATEMENT |
| | | | | | | | Item No. 4.I.
For Meeting of: JuneĀ 16, 2020 |
| | | | | | | | ITEM TITLE: | Ordinance relating to chronic nuisance properties YMC Chapter 11.45 | SUBMITTED BY: | Bronson Faul, Senior Assistant City Attorney |
SUMMARY EXPLANATION: | The City’s chronic nuisance provisions in the Yakima Municipal Code can be an effective tool to abate chronic nuisance properties that demand a lot of city resources. Chronic nuisance properties present serious health, safety, and welfare concerns while causing a financial burden upon the City by the number and type of calls for service. This Ordinance adds to the definition of what qualifies as a nuisance activity and reduces the number of nuisance activities required before a property can be declared a chronic nuisance. The Ordinance will also add due process rights by affording an opportunity to rebut a declaration of chronic nuisance made by the Chief of Police. Finally, this Ordinance will clarify and take care of some minor housekeeping issues throughout the Ordinance. |
