The City of Yakima Wastewater Division submitted Comprehensive Plan Amendment (CPA), Rezone, and Environmental Review applications for a portion of three (3) parcels, totaling approximately 2.5 acres, in the vicinity of Highway 24 and South 22nd Street. The request is to change the future land use designation from Low Density Residential to Commercial Mixed Use and to concurrently rezone from Suburban Residential (SR) to General Commercial (GC) to enable a future proposal for a low-barrier homeless housing project. The Yakima Planning Commission held a study session on June 27, 2018. The August 8, 2018 public hearing was continued to September 12, 2018 to allow the staff to provide additional information to the commission and to allow additional opportunity for public comment. On September 12, 2018 the Planning Commission recommended approval of the Comprehensive Plan Amendment from Low Density Residential to Commercial Mixed Use and Denial of the Rezone from Suburban Residential (SR) to General Commercial (GC). The Chair signed the Findings on September 26, 2018.
In accordance with YMC 16.10.090, the City Council shall direct planning staff to prepare legislation to approve, approve with conditions, or deny each amendment under consideration; and at a subsequent City Council meeting enact an Ordinance adopting the decision reached at the public hearing.
The complete record was distributed to City Council members in their October 16, 2018 agenda packet. Please bring those materials to the public hearing.
