The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) and the City of Yakima (City) have determined that WSDOT and the City need to coordinate flood response at the US 12-40th Avenue Interchange.
WSDOT is the property owner of the US 12- 40th Avenue Interchange and its location resides within the City’s jurisdiction and that the City is the lead agency during a flood response. As a result, WSDOT has agreed to allow the City to conduct certain flood control measures within the US 12-40th Avenue Interchange to divert flood waters that may be overflowing from Cowiche Creek and presenting an imminent threat to the City by entering into and flooding the US 12- 40th Avenue Interchange.
Agreement GCB 2981 between WSDOT and the City allows the City to utilize WSDOT property to stage material and equipment and to divert flood water away from homes and development by blocking the US 12- 40th Avenue Interchange with flood berms and/or other materials with the intention of diverting said flood waters to the Naches River. There are no costs associated with this Agreement and is attached for City Council review. |
