The agreement between the City of Yakima and the Yakima Fourth of July Committee authorizes funding to support a fireworks show on the evening of July 4, 2018 and for the second annual Apple Jam Battle of the Bands contest during the afternoon on the same date. Representatives from the event will be at the City Council meeting to discuss the plan for the 2018 4th of July celebration. A managed fireworks show is necessary to decrease and to discourage private firework displays.
The agreement includes a provision that the Fourth of July Committee submit a written report to the City Manager no later than 30 days after the conclusion of the event that includes the following details: attendance, financial success of the event and other pertinent post-event information.
Additionally, the agreement states that the City will consider providing funding for the 2019 and 2020 Apple Jam Battle of the Band events. The two amounts awarded for each of these two subsequent years will be less than the funding provided the prior year and will be based on funding availability. After 2020, the City will provide no additional funding to produce the Apple Jam Battle of the Bands. The City, based on available resources, will continue providing assistance for the 4th of July fireworks display in the future for community enjoyment and safety. |
