A swimming pool located on the eastside of Yakima was identified as a top priority of City Council in 2017. During the Study Session in May of 2017 regarding a Community Swimming Pool located on the eastside of Yakima, City Council directed staff to create an Ad Hoc Committee to study the issue in more depth.
Three City Council members, three Parks and Recreation Commissioners and three community members served on the committee. The committee met on six occasions and discussed a wide variety of topics and were given presentations to aid in the discussion. A purpose statement and a conceptual design was created to assist with the process.
After much discussion, the committee recommends the following two sites be considered for the construction of an eastside community swimming pool when a funding source has been identified:
1. Martin Luther King Jr. Park
2. Speedway property
