The City of Yakima has two Municipal Code chapters dealing with dogs.  Chapter 6.20 YMC deals with Animal Control in general and contains specific provisions regarding “dangerous dogs” and “potentially dangerous dogs.” It includes license provisions, provisions for kennels, and provisions regulating conduct of animals, impoundment and other related topics.

The second chapter is Chapter 6.18 YMC.  This chapter includes a definition of “pit bull dog” (YMC 6.18.010), and bans pit bull dogs from the City – with the exception of a pit bull serving as a licensed “service animal” and other exceptions (such as temporary transportation through the city or participation in a dog show or canine sporting event).  YMC 6.18.020.
