BUSINESS OF THE CITY COUNCIL
YAKIMA, WASHINGTON
AGENDA STATEMENT

Item No. 6.C.
For Meeting of: July 5, 2023

ITEM TITLE:Resolution authorizing an agreement with RH2 Engineering, Inc. to provide engineering services for City of Yakima Project WF2761 Biosolids Dewatering Improvements at the Wastewater Treatment Plant
SUBMITTED BY:

Scott Schafer, Director of Public Works

* Mike Price, Wastewater/Stormwater Manager 509-249-6815

SUMMARY EXPLANATION:

The City of Yakima (City) Wastewater Treatment Plant utilizes two aging centrifuges to remove water from biosolids prior to hauling the biosolids to a beneficial use facility.  The centrifuge process is energy intensive, requires frequent expensive maintenance by specialist repair firms, and requires the full-time attendance of a wastewater treatment plant operator.

City Project WF2761 will replace the centrifuges with two screwpress units that require low power input, reduced maintenance, and only part-time operator attendance.  The Project also includes biosolids conveyor improvements that allow efficient and unattended loadout of dewatered biosolids to the transport trailers.

The City used the Municipal Research and Services Center (MRSC) of Washington roster, a statewide small works and consultants roster system, followed by a competitive selection process under City Request for Qualifications 12303Q in selecting RH2 Engineering, Inc. to provide design, bidding, and construction engineering services for City Project WP2761.

The terms of the Agreement would be in an amount not to exceed Nine Hundred Fifty-Three Thousand Dollars ($953,000) and is attached for City Council review.  Funds are budgeted from Wastewater Capital Fund 478.
