ITEM TITLE:Aquatic Center at Martin Luther King Jr. Park Design

SUMMARY EXPLANATION:
A grant from the Washington State Legislative Capital Projects budget was received for $1 million dollars for the plans, specifications and bid documents for a swimming pool at Martin Luther King Jr. Park.  The Aquatic Center Ad Hoc committee was re-established and held four meetings.  At the May 15, 2023 meeting the Ad Hoc committee decided to send the design to City Council.  The design created by NAC Architecture and Water Technology is a design based on the input from the original Ad Hoc committee and the re-established Ad Hoc committee.

APPROVED FOR SUBMITTAL BY THE CITY MANAGER
RECOMMENDATION:

City Council should accept the report from the ad-hoc committee and refer the Aquatic Center concept design to the Parks Commission for review and comment.  Further, direct the administration to hold community meetings to receive direct feedback on three items:

1) The pool design, 2) The park design, and 3) explore connecting MLK Jr. Park with Adams Elementary School through the closure of Race Street between 8th and 9th Street.
