The Tahoma Cemetery staff submitted a grant request to the Washington State Department of Archeology and Historical Preservation to make improvements at Tahoma Cemetery. All of the sections within Tahoma Cemetery currently have wooden section markers and these markers have begun to deteriorate and need to be replaced.
The grant, in the amount of $13,500, provides for a replacement of all section markers in granite which will last a very long time. In addition, funds are being given to create a cemetery map allowing visitors to be able to self-locate graves of family members and friends. In addition to the map, a QR code will be included in the map so that individuals can scan and enter the name of the grave they are looking for and the application will direct the individual turn by turn to the grave site. Our City of Yakima GIS staff person will complete the application in house. |
