The City of Yakima (City) Wastewater Division relies on an installed base of thirty Flygt model wastewater pumps for wastewater conveyance in the sewer collection system and the wastewater treatment plant. The existing Flygt pump installations are configured for efficient pump repair and replacement to minimize flow interruptions during pump failures. The pumps require scheduled and unscheduled repair services, replacement parts, and pump replacement as a pump reaches the end of its service life.
The Wastewater Division is requesting a sole source authorization for the purchase of replacement parts, replacement pumps, and repair services from the Whitney Equipment Company, Inc. (Whitney) of Woodinville, WA. As described in the attached Sole Source Justification form and letter, Whitney is the sole authorized distributor of warranted Flygt pumps, parts, and factory authorized repair services in our region.
The City followed the requirements of RCW 39.04.280, the City Charter and the Yakima Municipal Code in identifying Whitney Equipment Company, Inc. as the sole source for Flygt wastewater pumps and associated replacement parts and repair services in our region. The proposed sole source agreement with Whitney Equipment Company, Inc. would be in an amount not to exceed $250,000 per year.
